Compare Roman ways with our ways of heating the home. (The Roman way of heating homes is not that much different to our modern day ways of making our homes warm! Or is it?)


SOME IDEAS:

- Our central heating is very similar to the Roman way of warming water.
- We also use wood fires, like the Romans.
- In addition, we also make use of electricity to keep our houses warm (with heaters).

Also look at the mosaics below. Which one is the modern day mosaic? How do modern mosaics compare to Roman mosaics?



SOME IDEAS:

- The last mosaic is the modern mosaic.
- The tiles seem to be mass produced, unlike the Roman mosaic tile which appears to be hand-made.
- We use decorative patters, like the Romans did.
