(b) Why did Germany and Italy help the Nationalist side in the Spanish Civil War? [6]

This is a “why-question”… You need to think of a number of reasons and then explain three or four of them in a paragraph. To start off, simply make a list of all the reasons that you can possibly think of.
What would be the next step?
Next, from your list, choose the most important reasons to explain in your essay answer. Then write the answer – it should be about one page long, but no longer than one and a half pages. This question should take you about 10 to 15 minutes to answer!

(You are not going to write the answer today – the aforementioned is simply advice on what would be the next step if you were required to write the essay answer.)
